BudaeJjigae (Stew Specialty)

Korea’s popular BudaeJjigae

]Around the 1950s, the US Army was stationed in Korea due to the outbreak of the Korean War and a part of the major food suppliers (sausages and hams) consumed in the US Army began to be traded throughout the Korean communities. The current style of Budae Jjigae stew was created by the combination of Korean traditional sauces such as Gochujang (red chili sauce) and those American sausages. Budaejjigae was named after combination of Budae (meaning ‘military camp’) and jjigae (meaning ‘stew’).
